Tree Fertilization is imperative for the overall health and wellness of a tree. Tree fertilization in Colorado is particularly important as native Colorado soil does not naturally contain the many nutrients that trees need for proper growth and development. We use chelated iron and nitrogen. Iron is a key nutrient for maples and oaks as they are more prone to chlorosis. We recommend fertilization of trees once in Spring and Fall depending upon the tree.
The Mountiain Pine or Ips Beetle is extremely destructive to pine trees. The Beetle destroys the plant tissue resulting in the trees death. The Zimmerman Moth’s larva invade pine species causing the weakening and breaking of branches.
Yes, preventative treatment is the only way to protect your tree investment from these destructive insects. If you notice damage to your pines then it is too late. We recommend one to two treatments a year.
Emerald Ash Borer, is an extremely destructive insect that will ultimately kill any unprotected Ash trees. Elm Scale, a tiny insect which feeds off tree leaves and presents itself as blackened, sooty mold growing on the trunk and branches.
Emerald Ash Borer (EAB), is an extremely destructive insect of ash trees which are widely planted in Colorado. It is far more damaging to trees than any other insect that previously has been found in the state, as populations of the insect increase in the infested areas, it will ultimately kill any unprotected Ash trees. Emerald Ash Borer treatment is affective against regular Ash Borer. Elm Scale diminishes the overall look of the Elm tree. Heavy infestations will cause dieback of the tree. We recommend treatment once a year.
Aphids are small insects with sucking mouth parts which allow them to feed on plant fluids. They can cause the leaves to curl and distort. Some aphids have toxins that may distort the growth even more. Spider mites cause leaves to appear dry and discolored. And in some cases lead to needle and leaf loss.
Both, Aphids and Spider Mites attack Spruce and Pine trees and can harm and kill new growth of a tree.

The average snowfall in Colorado is 57.5 inches. In 2014 we had 38.4 inches of snowfall. Insufficient moisture combined with the abnormally hot temperatures causes stress on trees. When a tree is stressed it is more easily damaged or infected by insect or disease. A lack of water may also cause premature dropping of leaves and needles and an unhealthy look.
